A slam poem for Caravaggio

The National Gallery of Canada has commissioned Ottawa slam poet Rusty Priske to write a spoken-word poem inspired by the big summer exhibition Caravaggio and His Followers in Rome. In this Big Beat video Priske performs the poem, The Wheel, in front of the gallery with Ruthanne Edward and Kevin Matthews — who are also familiar faces on the city’s slam scene.  Priske et al will perform the poem live at the gallery, among the masterpieces of Caravaggio, on two dates — 6 p.m., July 21 and 2 p.m. Aug. 13. If you have not yet seen the exhibition — and you’ll never have another chance to see 12 Caravaggios in one place — it’s a good time to go.
